SKATEBOARDING WORLD RECORDS
Skateboarding started in the late 1940’s in California, in the U.S. Alan Gelfand invented one of the first tricks in skateboarding known as “Ollie” which has become the basis of other skateboarding tricks. Rodney Mullen invented a lot of other basic skateboarding tricks such as the “kick flip” and the “impossible.” The new era of skateboarding is now street skating.
A skateboarder named Danny Wainwright has performed the highest ollie and he became the world record holder for this trick. Another professional skateboarder, Danny Way, broke the record for the highest and longest jump from a skateboarding ramp. He also set the highest freefall of 28 feet from the “Fender Stratocaster Guitar” at the top of Hard Rock café and cleanly landed on the pavement in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tony Hawk, legend in skateboarding, holds the record for spinning for 900 degrees or two and half spins while in mid-air during the last 1999 X Games.
The record for the longest distance covered on a skateboard is held by Ted “Barefoot” McDonald in the year 2008 for skating 24 hours and covering 242 miles in Seattle, Washington. “Sk8king” owner, Richie Carrasco, set the world record for making 142 “360 degree” spins on a skateboard in August 2000. The first one who set the record for the highest speed on a skateboard was Gary Hardwick with a top speed of 63 miles per hour while on a race in Arizona on the 26th of September, 1998.
