SKATEBOARDING HISTORY
The dawning of skateboarding as a sport has paved the way for skateboarding lovers. It is one of the most popular and evolutionary sports today. The history of skateboarding began sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s when surfing was the passion. No one knows who invented the first skateboard; it was just a joint effort of a number of people who shared the same interest and ideas. The early skateboards were just made of simple boards on wheels until skateboarders came up with a design that allowed them to "surf" in the streets.
Most of the early skateboarding users were also surfers. Initially, in the year 1959, the first retail skateboard, the Roller Derby Skateboard, was put on the market. Public demand resulted in a considerable amount of skateboards put on the market. There were even skateboarding contests. In the 1960s, over fifty million skateboards were sold.
Skateboarding was one of the most popular sports crazes until the year 1965; when its popularity slowed down due to safety concerns. There was a public outcry to prohibit and discourage the sport. There had been various accidents and even fatalities, which motivated safety advocates to oppose the sport, and these concerns, busted the craze – but only for a short period of time.
