Schwartzel strikes luck, wins African Open title
Charl Schwartzel had luck on his side at the final day of the Africa Open held at the East London Golf Club. With his great golf skills, the South African golf professional reached the finals and emerged as the winner in the competition.
Schwartzel won his fifth career title with a score of 20 under par in the final round of 67. He finished the tournament one stroke ahead of fellow South African, Thomas Aiken.
Since the beginning, Schwartzel said all he needed was a little luck to win the title. Well, it seems he got his winning charm at the final day of the tournament.
He made significant putts for par on the sixth and 13th holes. These were followed by birdies and a perfectly clear stroke on the par-four 18th. Click here for promotional ideas within sport.
After seven birdies on the field, he led Aiken with only two strokes. As he hit a drive far right, Schwartzel faced a difficult 215-yard shot. It also became harder because of the wind. The professional golfer ended up with five birdies on the last day.
Schwartzel moved on and made a bogey. He watched his contender, Aiken, as he missed an easy birdie putt that could’ve resulted to a play-off.
The tour will now move to Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. The Joburg Open will begin this week with a prize money that is expected to total to one million Euros.
