Pacquiao to defend title against Clottey at Cowboys Stadium
Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against his opponent from Ghana, Joshua Clottey.
The bout, which was announced by Top Rank’s Bob Arum, will be held in the state-of-the-art Cowboys stadium, the home of Dallas’ NFL team.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was delighted when the deal was sealed between him and Arum on Saturday.
“Jerry Jones knows exactly how big and important this event is, which is why it was so easy to put this deal together”, said Arum. “If Jerry could sell me on Cowboys Stadium and the North Texas market, you know he is going to have no problems selling out Cowboys Stadium on March 13”.
Jones also offered his stadium services for the anticipated Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega fight, which is now officially off because of disagreements regarding random blood testing. Click here for hardware ideas and storage solutions.
But even without a promising mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, Jones is thrilled to be hosting a bout for Pacquiao.
“This is about having a fighter like Manny and an event like this in our venue”, said Jones. “When we finished the deal, I was shaking as much as I was when we beat the Eagles. I’m just excited”.
The stadium can house 100,000 fans, but the plan is to prepare seats for only 40,000 attendees. Nevertheless, they can always increase the seating capacity.
“Manny defending his title against Joshua Clottey is not just a great fight, it’s a great event, and one we can showcase to the fullest in Cowboys Stadium”, added Jones. “We’re going to promote this like it was Super Bowl”.
