JEET KUNE DO
Jeet Kune Do, also known as “Jeet Kun Do” or “Jeek Kune Do” (JKD), is translated as “Just Fan’s Way of the Intercepting Fist”. It is a life philosophy and martial art founded by Bruce Lee. Unlike many traditional martial arts, it is not patterned or fixed. It is a philosophy along with guiding thoughts.
Bruce Lee is the martial artist who gave the name for Jeet Kune Do in 1967. This was according to his philosophy and combat system. Lee started researching different fighting styles and gave his own martial art, Jun Fan Gung Fung.
The main concepts of JKD are derived from Wing Chun. These include centerline control, trapping, vertical punching, and forward pressure. By his personal readings and research, Lee also associated ideas from fencing and boxing. During the growth of Jeet Kune Do, he included the art for personal improvement for better fighters.
The belief of cross-training in JKD is somehow related to similar to the practise of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in modern times. Lee was dubbed by UFC president Dana White as the “father of mixed martial arts”. Many regard Jeet Kune Do as the MMA precursor due to its syncretic nature. Click here for USB stick info.
Jeet Kune Do has guiding principles, including economy of motion; be like water; the five ways of attack; the three ranges of combat: close range, medium range, and long range; the four parts of JKD: efficiency, directness, simplicity and quickness; centerline; combat realism; and absorption of what is useful.
