ESKRIDO
Eskrido is a martial art considered as another version of a Doce Pares, a Filipino art that combines Aikido, Doce Pares, and Judo. It contains eskrima stick strategies mixed with locks and throws of the Jujutsu-style.
This stick-work martial art implies strong influence of the sword. The use of knife, sword, and other weapons are taught in this art. In 1951, it was established by Ciriaco Caňete, who taught it continuously in the Philippines and spread it throughout the world through seminars. He is considered as the highest ranked practitioner of this martial art and of Eskrima and Doce Pares.
Ciriaco was a Filipino martial artist who popularises other martial arts like Eskrima. He was also an instructor of Doce Pares and an art called Pangamot, a martial art that utilises an empty hand against a weapon. He was awarded as “Weapons Instructor of the Year”. He wrote a book entitled “Pangamot Book”.
Nowadays, this art is still frequently practised and continuously studied by many people. Everyday practise of this art makes a practitioner get better. The more the practitioner gets involved in this art, the more he gets power. Branded USB sticks are great for the travelling sportsman.
This art is a combination of the essential elements of all the martial arts that Ciriaco learned. It is composed of different styles and sub-disciplines. It develops the hand for striking and trapping, allowing a practitioner to penetrate the opponent’s defences.
This art is categorised based on the weapon used. It can be eskrido using single stick, double stick, knife, sword and dagger, empty hand, grappling, or alive hand.
